I'm thinking about how to make more perfect EC website which could be easily managed and tracked.
As anybody knows, we normally make offer to customer in EC website by different channels: newsletter, CPS, CPA, SEM, other ADs. We know that we always need to make different offer to different segment of customers, in terms of customer behavior, ROI, or demography. It's not easy to do it because normally website already has the default offer to organic visitors, the price of product, promotion, all offers has been made based on we suppose all traffic to website are organic, not from those push channels like newsletter, CPS, SEM, etc. BUT it's wrong, you could make a good offer to whom you don't know. Don't treat every visitors as same as who you know nothing about. At least you could track its referral site if a visitor came from a link of other website to your website, so the thing should not be like common way we used to be on.
So, the original idea to build a professional e-commerce site is don't define your offer like price and promotion at the beginning. The offer should be variable in the database. Nothing be set before web system recognize the source of visitor. The variable of offer will be automatically changed by program in terms of the source of traffic. The natural visitor could get a certain offer because the system know he have never been here before. This strategy should be set at the beginning.
Another question is how to know the source of visitors? Current technology is enough to do so. The cookie in the visitor's computer, their account in database if they login, the session ID, there are lots of way ensure we can get those infomation.
A offer code will be set in database to define all offers including price, promotion, and so on. It's easy to TRACK its ROI and evaluate it like most direct marketing company did.
